Yup, two days of adventure madness in the morning and a temple calmness in the evening. We wanted a light day now.
Well, did you know what we did in the last two days in Bali; then catch up the previous ones of the Bali Series in Footboard.
So, yeah, in the morning, we made our way to a retail shopping place, bit organised, something away from street shopping - we went to Oleh Oleh, this place is known for organised and cheap purchases - starting from clothes, food, handicrafts, painting, souvenirs, etc.
Don’t think that you will get another chance to buy good stuff you wanted - anywhere else like South Bali, Tirta Empul street shops or even Ubud Centre for that matter - quality goes for a toss. At least Oleh Oleh has some good quality in it.
If you want to visit the Bali Zoo, it is just close to one of the Oleh Oleh (which is on the way from Ubud to Sanur)
Then, we went straight to -
Tirta Empul
Tirta Empul temple is a Hindu Balinese water temple located near the town of Tampaksiring, Bali, Indonesia. The temple compound consists of a petirtaan or bathing structure, famous for its holy spring water, where Balinese Hindus go to for a ritual purification called Melukat.
There is a dress code to be followed even if you want to enter the temple - which comes free along with the ticket purchased.
But incase if you would like to get into the ritual ponds - you will have to rent another sarong to get in. You will also get locker room and changing room facility.
There are different ponds, and different spouts of fresh spring water in each of these ponds. Each signifies a specific thing in life, and some of the spouts are to be avoided, because they are to be approached only if we are doing rituals for the dead people.
If you want clarity, you can hire a local priest there, just in the temple, who will help you do the same with the significance mentioned.
There is a big shopping street just outside Tirta Empul, you can carry out your BARGAIN shopping here!
Then some of us went to the Bali Swing, a mandatory stop for photos! Just remember the Bali Swing is too crowded, and has a large queue. If it rains, the service will also be stopped, with a condition that you can use the ticket in the next 7 days.
We started walking in the Ubud Centre marketplace in search of good Balinese food. We found a restaurant in the road opposite to the Ubud Palace.
We got really good Ubud cuisine for good prices too. Try the seafood platter consisting of oyster, squid, lobster, etc. We also tried Nasi Goreng of beef, chicken platters.
Now, comes the shopping spree. We decided to walk through each and every shop in the Ubud street in search of good clothes. We really liked the designs of the satin shirts, the linen material pyjamas, and the souvenirs.
One of the most important souvenirs of Bali is male genitalia 😂 you could literally see uncountable of them made in wood and painted artistically, of different sizes.
Again, remember to bargain anywhere you purchase in Bali. They literally mention 4-5x of the selling price of they see foreigners. Try to bulk up your purchase at one shop and get your prices reduced.
Don’t worry about the language here, all the shopkeepers know decent English to complete a sale, you can comfortably converse in English. Or it is always best to have your driver or guide while shopping, when the shopkeepers can never try to quote a higher price at all.
